What is opioid use disorder (OUD)?
OUD is a medical condition involving a pattern of opioid use that continues despite problems it causes. It can affect your thinking, mood, and body—but effective treatments exist, and recovery is possible.

- Group therapy (skills, relapse prevention, wellness)
- Peer recovery support (people with lived experience to walk alongside you)
- Care management & case management (benefits, housing, medical, legal, employment)

Medications for OUD (MOUD)
We use FDA-approved medications together with counseling, peer support, and care management. Your provider will help you choose the option that fits your goals, health history, and schedule.
Methadone (daily, with take-home options as you stabilize)
What it does
Eases withdrawal and cravings so you can feel well and focus on recovery.
How it’s taken
Daily supervised dosing at our OTP, with take-home doses available as you meet safety and stability criteria.
Good fit for
People who do well with a structured routine or have not felt stable on other medications.
Buprenorphine (sublingual tablets/films)
What it does
Reduces withdrawal and cravings with a ceiling effect that lowers overdose risk compared with full agonists.
How it’s taken
Dissolves under the tongue/inside the cheek; dosing plan individualized.
Good fit for
People who prefer a home medication option with regular clinic follow-up.
Long-Acting Buprenorphine Injections (no daily pills)
BRIXADI® (buprenorphine) — weekly or monthly
What it does
Provides a steady level of buprenorphine without daily dosing.
How it’s given
A weekly or monthly under-the-skin injection by our clinical team. Weekly is commonly used early on; monthly is typically for people already stable on buprenorphine.
Program notes
Available only through the BRIXADI REMS safety program and administered in-clinic (not dispensed to patients).
SUBLOCADE® (buprenorphine) — monthly
What it does
One injection each month to control cravings and withdrawal.
How it’s given
In-clinic, monthly subcutaneous injection. If you’re new to buprenorphine, we can give a small test dose first to confirm you tolerate it, then start SUBLOCADE in the clinic with observation.
Program notes
Provided under the SUBLOCADE REMS and administered in-clinic.
Naltrexone / Vivitrol® (monthly)
What it does
Blocks opioid effects and helps prevent relapse; also approved for alcohol use disorder.
How it’s given
Monthly injection after you’ve been opioid-free for a period to avoid precipitated withdrawal.
Good fit for
People who prefer a non-opioid medication or can complete detox first.
